In-house | On-site

In-house On-site Legal was started to provide some of the same legal support an in-house attorney would provide a business as a salaried employee, but without the payroll commitment or wasting money every month on legal insurance you rarely use.

Specifically, In-house On-site was started to provide law firm support in the middle of the COVID-19 outbreak. It's more difficult and less practical to have in-person meetings these days. Besides, why waste time blocking out a part of your day to drive to a law office, sit in the waiting room, and fill out an intake form? Especially when all you need is to bring the legal concerns of your business directly to an attorney, before a bad decision has been made or a bad contract signed.

Jonathan Edwards

Jonathan served as the general counsel for Francis Marion University, where he also taught business law. When the pandemic hit, he became concerned about small business owners who had pressing legal questions in a novel, virtual business world. He started In-house On-site Legal to provide a way for Portland, Oregon business owners to get their legal questions answered online and fast, but not from a national company with a reach into every market. Rather from local, Portland, Oregon attorneys, who know the region, and who appreciate the social, political, and business environment unique to Portland, Oregon.

"Jonathan served as the General Counsel for Francis Marion University for six years. During that period, he handled a wide array of issues—from tort litigation to student disciplinary hearings, to the drafting of Title IX guidelines and procedures. Jonathan is highly professional, and his work always impeccable."

Dr. Fred Carter

President, Francis Marion University

"Jonathan worked on a variety of legal issues for our institution, including real estate transactions, gift agreements, and contractual reviews. His guidance with liability issues relating to potential tort claims was especially beneficial, both proactively with event planning and reactively to situations involving possible litigation."

"During my 19 year tenure as Vice President for Finance and Facilities at Francis Marion University, I worked closely with Jonathan on a vast array of legal issues. Of note, he served as the first General Counsel permanently employed by the University in the 50 years of its’ existence. A personable young man. Exceptional clear thinking, measured analytical skills required to address the diverse legal issues in higher education. Superb oral and written communications skills. Perhaps, most notably, he worked with a broad number of faculty and staff in developing a comprehensive Title IX policy for the University. I commend his services to anyone seeking the talent of a bright, aggressive legal counsel."

"Jonathan reviewed many affiliation agreements we had with other organizations.  He recommended changes to third party agreements and wrote agreements for us to use with other third parties.  His knowledge of the legal requirements for contracts and legal agreements was invaluable."
